Children in Church

We love having children of all ages in our church, from newborns up.

On arrival in church, you little one can take an activity bag, located by the front door. This offers simple activities that can be done either at the table at the back of church or in the pew with their parents. There is also an area at the back of church where there are some toys and a play mat and some pens, paper, colouring in sheets and puzzles: children can play happily there if they would like to.

However, near to the start of the service they will be invited to come up to the front of the church where they can participate in a short children’s message.

This is followed either by Godly Play or by doing more of the activities on the table at the back. Godly Play is a Montessori method of telling Bible stories, using parables, sacred stories and liturgical lessons about religious traditions using simple materials.

Children return to their parents in time to receive Holy Communion together. During the notice time children have opportunity to tell the congregation what they have been learning and to proudly show what they have made or drawn during their time away.

The final song sees the children enthusiastically joining in by playing various musical instruments and making a very “joyful noise unto the Lord!”

All our Godly Play leaders have current Blue Cards and have completed the Diocesan Working Safely With Children training. There are always two adults with the children at all times.
