2022-12-04 Advent 2 Year A - Baptised with the Holy Spirit and with Fire
In this sermon we reflect on what it means that the coming messiah would baptise with the Holy Spirit and Fire. Australians and many other nations have seen with terror the effects of wild fire. Is that the sort of fire we should expect. We suggest that something more like the cool burning that indigenous people in Australia have done for millennium is more the sort of fire. It is a fire that cleans out the debris and opens up the country for new growth and diminishes the risk of wild fire. Does the fire of Baptism cleans out the rubbish and bring an openness to God's rich blessing?
