Once a week Fr Nicholas and others from other Churches go to the local state schools for Religious
Education. (It is called Religious Instruction in the schools, but we trust that we are providing
education not merely instruction.) Education draws out from the kids their own experiences and
beliefs. It helps them to learn as they explore their experiences against the experience of the Church
and the Scriptures.
When we arrive in the class the classroom teacher stays in the class with the children whose parents
have opted in. We usually follow a curriculum using the RE books provided but we are always open
to the questions that children have. We are always welcome in the school and generally the children
participate well and enjoy the discussions.
These days with modern technology we can use You Tube videos to supplement the material. There
are some great videos available, though you do have to be ready work without technology when
the technology fails.
