The Church of the Resurrection

Welcome

Welcome to our Church Community. We trust that our web site will give you some insights into who we are and the hope that is within us. We aspire to be one of the most welcoming and hospitable communities of faith that you will encounter. All are welcome! We would be delighted if you join us for worship.

The Church of the Resurrection is a relatively new Church being consecrated on the 25th of October 1981. Its name speaks of our faith in the resurrection, and it also alludes to the upheaval that came from watching the Church of St Paul at Aspley demolished to make way for the expansion of the Highway on Gympie Road. The new Church, over time, brought together the congregation from Albany Creek with the Aspley Congregation. In 2007 a history of the Church was published; it is interesting to read and discover the journey of the Church to that time. There are still copies available.

The Vision of the Church: Christlike Hospitality

We are still learning what it means to truly be Christlike in our Hospitality. We see this as having two layers. The first being, we hope to welcome all who come to the Church or onto the grounds of the Church will feel very welcome. Secondly, we trust that our friendship and welcome will be recognisable in all we do in the wider community. We trust that our welcome communicates the love of Christ Jesus our Lord.

We encourage members of the Church to participate in our Lenten and Advent Study groups, our meditation groups or simply to share good food and have fun with other members of the Church. We see this as an important way of building genuine Christian Community.

Come join us for worship or feel free to get involved with one of our groups first if that is easier for you.

Need a facility to hold a function, family wake or group meeting, we have the space for you. Head over to Hall Hire for more information or contact the office. Our fees are reasonable and affordable.

Debbie Kemish - Synod Representative

Debbie Kemish has been a worshipping member of this Parish since 2005 and has been a member of Parish Council for a number of years, initially as a Warden and for the past few years as one of the Parish’s representatives to the annual Synod of the Diocese of Brisbane. Information about this year’s synod will be available to Debbie in Mid June and you are welcome to chat to her about this. A report is given to the Parish by the synod representative/s and the Rector after the Synod as well. The following is from the Diocesan website: In the Anglican Church, a diocese is governed by a Synod, that is, a bishop acting with the advice and consent of representatives of the clergy and laity of the diocese. In the Diocese of Brisbane, the Archbishop calls the Synod to meet at least once in every year, to discuss, debate and decide on various matters of business such as the Diocesan budget, legislation governing the Church (i.e. ‘Canon law’), and other issues that concern the Church. The Synod also elects people to various committees and boards in the Diocese, as well as choosing General Synod representatives (i.e. diocesan representatives in the nation Synod held at least once every four years, which brings together all the diocese of the Anglican Church of Australia). Synod 2023 will be held Friday 23 to Sunday 25 June.

Caroline Strickland - Parish Nominator

Caroline Strickland has been a worshipping member of the Aspley-Albany Creek Parish since 2015 and is in her second year as a member of Parish Council. Caroline is the Lay Pastoral Care Minister and as such conducts home and hospital visits, offering the Reserved Sacrament. She also assists Father Nicholas Whereat with Nursing Home and Retirement Village Communion Services. Please don’t hesitate to speak with Caroline if you are interested in, or have any questions about any of these ministry areas.

Sandra Cartwright - Rector's Warden

Sandra Cartwright became a worshipper in the Aspley-Albany Creek Parish in 2001. She has filled various roles over the years including several years as a Parish Councillor, a teacher of Children’s Church and a committee member for finding and purchasing the Church property at Warner. Currently, Sandra is the Rector’s Warden. Two of her main focuses for 2023 are supporting our Rector’s well-being and involvement with the Parish Office Project which we hope to bring to fruition towards the end of this year. Working with Deborah Kemish, Sandra is one of the points of contact for Buildings and Maintenance items within the parish. Please don’t hesitate to contact Sandra with ideas or offers of practical help for maintaining a safe and attractive Parish.
